How do I use NitroTek's Webmail?
Firstly, if you have a POP3 account with NitroTek, you can access your
e-mail from any internet computer in the world. Webmail doesn't work
for Alias accounts (contact us
to switch from an Alias to a POP3). To
access your Webmail account you will need your POP3 username/login and
your POP3 password. Note that your username/login looks like your
e-mail address, but with a '+' instead of the '@' symbol. Armed with
that info, go to http://www.YOURDOMAIN.COM:2095 (yes, that is a
colon followed by 2095) and then plug
in your username & password. Click on the NeoMail or Horde icon (if
it's your first time, you'll see a Personal Details page: add your name
and click Continue). If you've ever used Hotmail or Yahoo Mail, you'll
need no instructions how to use Webmail! If you haven't, it's
intuitive! What's the difference between Horde & NeoMail? Well, we
prefer the NeoMail interface, but Horde is better if you have to access
multiple accounts and want to check your Spam account.
My e-mail has stopped working - what's up?
The e-mail in your e-mail account takes up space on NitroTek's servers.
Your hosting account has a maximum amount of space alloted to it
(according to the plan you're on) and when that maximum is reached, the
first thing to stop working is your e-mail. Get rid of extraneous files
via your FTP client. If you have enabled SpamAssassin, your spam will
take up space too, so make sure you empty that account (use Horde,
above, to empty your spam mail). Also, make sure your incoming mail
server is set correctly - it should read 'mail.yourdomain.com'. If all
the above fails to correct the problem, contact NitroTek.
What is the difference between an alias
e-mail
account and a
POP3 e-mail account?
Our POP3 mail server is mail.yourdomain.com (or .ca or .org). To use an
e-mail address you have already set-up with us, you will need to set-up
a POP3 account on your e-mail program.
For example if the first part of your email address is "bob" then the
username would be bob+yourdomain.net (note that your username looks
like your e-mail address, but with a "+" instead of an "@"). And also
make sure you type in your password correctly since it is case
sensitive.
Does NitroTek have an SMTP server?
No, we do not have an SMTP server. Please find out what your SMTP
server is from your ISP (Internet Service Provider) and use that. In
Outlook Express, click on Tools, then Accounts. Select an exisiting
mail account (probably given to you by your ISP), then click on the
Servers tab and write down the server name in the "Outgoing SMTP" box.
It will in all likelihood begin smtp1.xyz.com.
Why doesn't NitroTek have an SMTP server?
We do not have an SMTP server for several reasons. If we had an SMTP
server everyone in the world would be able to use it - even
non-NitroTek
clients, and since we are not an ISP we can not restrict the server
based
on IP's. Also if someone used NitroTek's SMTP server to send out BUCE
(Bulk
Unsolicited Commercial Email), it will result in our domain being
blocked
by other domain(s) and to be listed on the MAPS (Mail Abuse Prevention
System
LLC) RBL (Realtime Blackhole List). For more info on this please check
